Donna Tart’s best book. Painful, winding and thoroughly researched. As per usual all the female characters are generally flimsy and mythical as Donna is definitely a guys girl who seems to view women as set pieces (unsurprising as she was a classmate and good friend of famous woman hater Brett Easton Ellis)
However the goldfinch is still stand alone in its ambition and execution, and luckily its about a boy so he is full and complicated. It reads like an epic, kind of Greek in its themes of mortality, muses (see flimsy female characters) family and TREASURE!!!
